Because your husband is forever taking bits of fluff upstairs when you're not looking ;-)

Is the upstairs carpet quite new and is it a wool blend, if yes then that's what creates the fluff. If the downstairs is a synthetic carpet then there wont be any fluff. This might explain it or you.

Come to my house...I've got both...both upstairs and down. I blame it on two cats and a dog.:-(
I wonder if the downstairs grot is mostly from our outdoor shoes....etc.

Upstairs fluff will come from bedding....bathroom towels and so on...

And as Janzman says...different carpets?
I am going for- its because you have the beds upstairs and they release the fluff onto the carpets -makes sense to me !!
