Criminal Investigation in doubt due to cutbacks in police funding.

Should the British Army Paras face a full investigation over the 1972 incident?

DTC - You cannot always take primary sources seriously though. In this case, some soldiers concocted their evidence to cover up their acts (Saville Inquiry).

I take your point generally though that those involved are usually best placed to comment.
I don't, agc, and I am not condoning their behaviour - at all. However, what percentage of bad apples are we talking about in the barrel of military and para-military (police) - or even the UDFs? It is, I would put it to you, a very small percentage indeed. Again, not that we (the legal system) should sit back and throw our hands up in the air and say 'so what' and 'close a blind eye' - we shouldn't. However, after all of this time and because of the 'diffuse' and subjective nature of things, along with the passage of time, it becomes harder to establish fact from hearsay. Just look at the parallels with priestly sexual abuse or those acts from celebs.....a lot of 'he said, she said' and only their God really knows what went on.

Indeed a small proportion DTC, I was just trying to get back to the matter in hand ;-)

We could discuss all day and beyond about the Troubles and areas of collusion. Normally, I would hate cost to get in the way of achieving justice but in this case, it is virtually impossible.

I can agree with various aspects with just about all respondees on this thread especially Slappy's comment about Sir Michael Jackson being our finest officer.
Agree there, agc, like a lot of things in the public domain, there's always been a cost-to-benefits equation to tackle and satisfy, other options taking precedence as a consequence. However, we would need a budget and economic system like Holland's, i.e. more of a nanny state, to achieve satisfaction on this and many other such contentious issues.
