Would agree with others on "not having u-bend" being unusual. I have used caustic soda with "very hot" water many times on plastic pipe, always worked and no problems but give it plenty of time.
I have long hair and it clogs up the bath drain but, for some weird reason, I have a build up of cat fur in the bathroom sink.

I use a mixture of drain cleaner and long tweezers. That was how I discovered the cat fur.

Is it not possible to use bicarbonate of soda and vinegar rings a bell too.

@wolf63.......You have now rung a bell with me.

Vinegar and Bi-carb react together like the 'ingredients' of fire extinguishers and create a violent foaming action which ,in actual fact, can be sufficient to unblock a sink outlet.

Hans.
Vinegar, bicarb and soda crystals is even better.

right mrs c brought caustic soda home put 2 lots down sink looks like problem solved powerful stuff made me choke a bit on the fumes lol
I am pleased that you appear to have solved the problem but remain mystified by the fact that your washbasin does Not have an outlet trap (u-bend)

Hans.
It's most likely hidden by the pedestal, Hans.
Or, it could be a slimline type................

Question Author
from the way the basin is situated on the pedestal in bathroom couldnt see how a u-bend would have fitted Hans from plughole to floor is a 3ft pipe that goes straight under floorboards to wherever but seems like soda has done the job tho

@berniecuddles.......There was a time that I was proud to fly a flag in AB. However, I was forced to lower my Standard when someone within Editorial
'flagged down' three of my postings. Consequently, I have thought of hoisting a white flag of surrender; but feel it is better if I remain as a blank person.

Hans.
Hans, you're a valued contributor to this site.

No need to be blank :o)
If you think it's blocked with hairs I read somewhere about putting some hair removal cream down the plug hole - haven't tried it though.
Yep as ozzy say's could be one of those shallow u bends thats under the floor boards. Caustic should shift it though, bernie.
I tried that Sher, before getting the caustic soda, it didn't make a bit of a difference except make my bathroom stink of Nair :-(
@The Builder.......Thanks for your complimentary remarks. However, I am afraid that if I digress any further off thread, it might see me disappearing down the plughole.
