I was given a 2nd hand Galaxy smartphone from my son in-law that he had used on pay as you go.

When I put my sim-card in from my phone, which is on contract with Orange and one of the old type, it said insert sim-card.

Any help please.

If itr doesn't even see the SIm card it may be you need to wipe the card's contacts a few times, ensure any grease is removed. Then replace it back in the phone.

Silly question it was inserted the right way wasn't it ? Not sure you can put it in the wrong way up/around, but just asking.
What network was he on with his PAYG? It probably does need unblocking and may even need a 3G sim from your provider. Take the phone to a reputable unblocking place and then ring Orange with the make and model of the phone and ask if your current SIM is compatible, if it isn't ask them to provide one with your existing number, it is something they do all the time.

Thanks folks, its in the right way OG. We have a guy on our market who I thing unblocks.
BTW, what you want is an UNLOCK as opposed to an UNBLOCK, unlocking just frees a phone up from a network, unblocking is attempting to use a phone which has been blocked after being stolen and asking for such from a reputable trader might get the boys in blue interested in you :-0
