Peel it, dice it, boil it, ( 15 mins) mash with salt and pepper. Enjoy.
^what flump said. You can't eat the skin, but it makes good compost.
^ PS if you don't like it, please can I have it?
Dice it ,mix it with diced carrots , cook then mash with lots of butter and black pepper .Yum .
Peel it, boil it, mash it in with your potatoes, add a bit of butter and black pepper, delicious
We call it jobbins round here.
As my very good friend shaneystar has described but, if you have any mashed potatoes left, then add them plus a touch of curry powder.
.....and we call it turnip. Mashed potatoes and turnips.

You might need t get the rolling pin out to cut through the thing. I put a carving knife on the top and hit the knife with the rolling pin. There is no way I can cut through it otherwise.
Noooooo tilly, a turnip is a white thing. It's only in Scotland that people call swedes turnips (Neeps and tatties, most definitely orange swedes!)
That's a turnip for the books...
I buy it all ready diced in Morrisons .There's no way I can hack through a swede these days :)

Thanks all.....ive been cooking swede for years. I always peel it and then slice it off the centre core. I steam it, mash it up and add butter, salt and pepper and nutmeg.

I was just wondering if you could eat the skin and the centre bit....i don't peel any other vegetable and only ever peel spuds when i'm doing mash.

Thanks
Think the skin's probably a bit tough for eating, but you could always try. I cook the core along with the rest of it. I've just discovered that if you mash the left-overs it freezes OK.
