Too Late?

My wife keeps nagging on that at almost 70yrs- I am too late to be 'eating healthy' now!
Does anyone agree?

It`s never too late to eat healthily. My Gran decided to become a veggie when she was in her early 80s. She lived to be 97.
Not at all Matheous, healthier eating can only be of benefit to you.
are you generally fit and healthy? What does your diet consist of now?

life too short and miserable enough without eating the foods you enjoy. As long as you burn some of it off, fill your boots!
It depends on what you want out of the life you have remaining. Surely it's better to remain as healthy as possible ? That said there is a balance, don't eat things that are "healthy" if it makes you miserable. Enjoy your food.
Wives DO NOT nag, they may go on a bit though.
Sort of, but it makes sense to keep an eye on the cholesterol intake. OH loves his grub and is now 81 having had heart probs. due to clogged arteries at age 70 - he then modified his diet a bit and has been for a check-up today and perfectly OK. Apart from being sensible about fat and eating more veg. and fruit, if you've been OK so far and have had the check-ups you may as well continue as you are. I'm assuming that your diet does not totally comprise pork pies and sausages. In other words, don't go over the top, get an assessment (blood test) of where you now are and act accordingly.
I disagree with the answers here. There is a lot you can do to reduce your chances of a heart attack or stroke. OK, you can`t undo the damage that has already been done to your arteries but you can prevent further damage by following a healthy diet.

Have been eating pretty healthily now for just over a year and feel much better for it. I've cut back as much as possible on red meat (now accounts for maybe two main courses in a week) Eat 3-4 portions of veg and 2 fruit. Making my own healthy soup as opposed to tinned.etc.,etc. My main stumbling block is portion sizes and encouragement to follow my wife's unhealthy ways!
There is almost nothing I eat that makes me miserable at all. I am also still prone to the odd treat of chocolate etc......
Good for you Matheous, why should we give up looking after ourselves just because of our age? I'm 56 & very conscious of trying to maintain a healthy balance with food & exercise. I love to walk whenever I can, I walk part of my journey back in to town from work even though I have a bus pass. I bought an exercise mat to do gentle stretches on. It's all a balance. Keep it up!
This reminds me of a joke. Elderly couple have both died and gone to heaven. They find it is absolutely amazing and they are very happy.
Husband to wife: "You and your healthy eating. We could have been here years ago".
It's good to be healthy and good to let yourself have a treat when you feel like it. Only 70? - there's years of life left in you yet, you need to be fit and healthy enough to enjoy them! - you keep doing what you're doing, if others disagree, then it's their problem.....
You must surely have been eating healthy to have got this far?
What on earth is she thinking of - you could live until you are 100 or more. I am aiming at being the oldest woman in the world and eat as healthily as I can. I am 87 now so reckon I am well on the way and hope to stay here as long as possible. Keep going Math.

If you are going to live to a ripe old age, you want to be well. Keep on munching the celery sticks. :-)
We have always eaten healthily At 77 and 78 the BP and chloresterol levels are fine but it doesn't stop our practice nurse bullying us into taking statins.
seadogg don't let her bully you. Don't take them if you don't want to.
Never too late matheous, I gave up smoking 5 years ago, I feel better for it. Keeping fit and trim keeps your muscles strong, eating healthily will keep you alert. It is easy to fall into lazy ways and eat stodgy food especially when it's cold weather. Keep fit by walking i find that if I don't keep walking my muscles seize up.
