I work for a packing company and my manager is trying to force us to put a slip in each package we send saying 'this item was carefully packed by [name]'. I've been arguing with him over the fact i'm not comfortable with this and would prefer a number 'packer 01, etc' instead. He insists he's compromising because he could insist on putting each individuals full name and photo in each package. Does anyone know any legalities of this and wether i have a leg to stand on in my protests?? Thanks in advance

i wouldn't have thought so - i have to wear an ID badge at my work which has my name ad photo on, as do many millions of people in ordinary jobs. I dont personally see the problem (or the point)
it's hardly like a customer dissatisfied with the packaging is going to come and hunt you down. names are not really unique either. Perhaps you could reach a compromise whereby you change you name slightly on the slip (ie you say john smythe instead of john smith). I was once in a job where we signed letters A. Clerk (administration Clerk)
Many companies that I buy from do this. I think you make be getting it a bit our of proportion.
Why do you object to 'Carefully packed by Dave' being put on a bit of paper- it doesn't identify you to the customer it just gives a friendly edge to the business you work for? There are quite a few Daves about you know, I don't think it's an unreasonable request tbh. What is it you don't like about it?
I think it is an unwelcome demand, but I doubt you can insist on not having it. As an employee you have limited control. As folk have mentioned it doesn't identify you outside the company so I think you'll get used to it.
It feels like a blame game to me.

And a shocking waste of money having all those photos and slips printed only to go in the bin with the outers. Unfortunately I doubt you have a leg to stand on.
Mydup, they AREN'T going to do full names and photos.
Lol, My son manages a very large chicken farm that provides frozen chickens for Sainsbury's He recently posted a pic on FB holding a frozen chicken that has written on it....

// Lovingly reared by Brad Pitt// or something similar, Ok, so he isnt actually called Brad Pitt. but you get the gist.

And no I do not approve of his work in mass production chicken farming.

(just a pity this permalink url spoilerises the whole joke)

I don't see a problem, loads of shops, MW services, restaurants etc look at your till receipt -today you were served by Kelvin or Tonya..means nothing but a personal touch or are you worried about being held identifiable after an error?

Maybe , divebuddy- but that's for the company and the customers to decide
How about a slip saying "the packing department is autocratically managed by ..........."
Hi Ratter

//And no I do not approve of his work in mass production chicken farming.//

Well, somebody's got to do it. 65 million mouths to feed and more by the day, as the Mildly aiDa is keen to remind us.
