Following the arrests last week in the country there is growing unrest. As important as it is to prevent radicalisation, is it not also essential to protect the law abiding Islamic following from abuse and damage to property? We are seeing more attacks in the UK too. Is it now possible to stop this escalation of tensions?

Be careful naomi/VHG.
For expressing similar sentiments on a thread recently it was intimated to me that to express such thoughts and concerns automatically marks you down as 'right wing'.
"The majority of Muslims here ABHOR what is happening and have spoken out about it."

but theyll still steal/are stealing this country from right under our noses....
Where do you live Bazwillrun?
Just out of interest...I really don't care!
But since you have quoted me.
1ozzy, where individuals live is irrelevant, as is their individual perception of Muslims who live locally to them. This is a worldwide issue.
Chilld, there are none more ‘right wing’ than radical Islamists. Ironic, eh?

England !
Not ALL muslims are terrorists. Mhmed Ali, Cat Stevens, most Malays/Turks/Serbians/UARs even most Pakistanis aged 50+. Where youngsters are being radicalised need to be more transparent and I trust the elders will sort them.
It's really interesting to see English people supply links to Australian news items then exchange views.
You have no idea as to what happens here, then you impose your English views/experiences on an Australian news clip and tell us "that is what the world is like".
The world may be "just like that where you live". But it ain't where I live.
"Änti Muslim backlash". What a crock of the proverbial.
Your interpretation doesn't quite gel over here.
Surely there are many "sensationalist newspapers" over there you can quote and have the local experience to support without following some rubbish you find on the net.
1ozzy, //The world may be "just like that where you live". But it ain't where I live. //

So your world view is confined to your experience of your street?
By the way Agchristie.
I've no problem with the link being posted,, Just disappointed with the way some others jump on the "anti"bandwagon.
1ozzy, no one is jumping on any bandwagon. They are acknowledging reality, something you appear to be reluctant to do.
Nah...not just my street.
More so the way my Country as a whole reacts and the way our population reacts, both to the overseas issues and our own community, no matter what country they immigrated from, their colour or their religion.
Keeping in mind Oz was one of the first countries to commit troops to combat IS. We have also been involved in many of the "World confrontations" and are proud to have done so.
Define "reality"Naomi,,,,please.
Yours or mine?
I'm not denying we are immune.
I also read newspapers.
Extremists are a problem no matter what background they have.
But there is a difference between extremists and the others.
Whilst there are extremist calling for "action" there are others from the same religion condemning those people, (if i may be so bold as to refer to them as people).
Thanks, but I don't think we need any lectures on racism from Australia.
1ozzy, Yes, now they’re condemning them – but for the past however many years their silence has been deafening - so whether that condemnation is genuine or simply an exercise in self-preservation is debateable.

Ludwig, :o)
And that could well be yet another debate Naomi.
I doubt we could ever convince each other :-)
But hey...lets try some day.
Bedtime for me now.
Thanks for a lively discussion....
Take care.
Night, 1ozzy. Sleep tight. :o)
They've managed to mobilise an army of protesters at every perceived slight against them or their religion. Real outrages committed against 'the west', not a peep out of them and excuses and tacit approval from their spokesmen. Perhaps IS are so nauseating some of them are speaking out now. Is it too little too late, possibly. Ultimately the blame lies with politicians because they shouldn't be here in such enormous numbers.
