It amazes me that almost all of the problems mentioned here which prevent British people taking jobs do not seem to prevent immigrants from doing so. With the possible exception of age (no, I would not expect most 65 year olds to spend their days picking vegetables) most of the other problems mentioned are surmountable. However, this problem is not one...

I cant see your link Mikey- but it's not as simple s everyone can do manual work. not many 65 year olds would be suitable for sprout picking for example.
Mikey - you need to re-post your link

Do you mean pick vegetables for a proper wage and come off benefits, or pick vegetables in return for the benefits?

We crossed posts there Kval

65 year olds should be fine picking a few sprouts
Free veg and plenty of exercise what could possible go wrong

Would that include immigrants and non white unemployed, or just your general unemployed white indigenous Brits?
Many 65 year olds who have worked all their lives on the land are so broken by the unrelenting hard labour that they are aunabl to work any more. That is why the retirement age was set at 65.

What about all the 100,000's of people claiming benefits who are not 65 years old. Anyway, a 65 year old today can't claim jobseekers allowance can they ?
Perhaps they can if they are not entitled to a pension?

There speaks someone who has never picked 'a few sprouts' for a living.
Other countries have a different work ethic to us here in GB. Make all benefit claimants work for their money, sounds easy doesn't it, if only!! We are not called 'Benefit Britain' for nothing!
If you make all claimants work for their money you are taking properly paid jobs away, so who benefits?

Make them pick up litter - the councils employ people to do that
Make them clean graffiti - another job the councils employs people to do
Make them pick veg - farmers employ people to do that

Everybody who does any form of paid work should be paid at least the minimum wage. Where are all these jobs going to come from?
What happens in the 'off-season' veg-picking-wise?
My Dad died aged 59. Maybe I should be entitled to the pension he never got to claim....
Do all these unemployed potential veg pickers live within a reasonable distance to the farm? Or do they have to sleep rough in a caravan or similar.
My father died aged 56,worked solid from 14 years old till a year before his death.
I bet they'd have to pay travel costs out of their vast (joke) benefits Mamya, either that or walk.
I often wonder if these people who post this sort of thing realise how pathetic out of work benefits actually are!
And of course the single mums could get their kids picking veg alongside them, baby in a papoose on their back
Mams...same. Although he wasn't a Brit...
If we don't import cheap labour or 'force' the unemployed to do the jobs nobody likes Mikey's Fortnum & Mason hampers might go up in price. Quick, open the floodgates!
(don't put any characters - other than a space - immediately before or after a link when posting it in any text box; the link in the OP didn't work because of the trailing full stop)
