I paid for an item last Tuesday. By the weekend it had still not been despatched. The seller contacted me on Saturday and apologised as they'd been away working,and would post the item on Monday.
Its still not been sent. What's a reasonable amount of time to wait before I contact them?

When you say it's not been sent it could be they haven't marked it as dispatched yet.

Occasionally sellers are slow in sending with nothing sinister about it - I would say 14 days from the end of the auction, then lean hard.

Just email them Pasta with a polite note saying you are very disappointed as you haven't received it yet - why the hold up again? Then say if I haven't received it by next weekend I will really have to contact Ebay resolution centre for further advice ....
I have done that twice and it's really got them moving! I didn't feel guilty as it was written in a nice way and not a threat (well, not really!) ;)

I received it today...its still not been marked as despatched. Slightly disorganised seller,I suspect. :-)
All sellers have to specify a dispatch time (1 ,2, 3 days etc) on the listing.
There is also an expected delivery date for each item shown on your purchase history.
You can start an 'item not received' claim with eBay once the expected delivery date has passed. They then have 5 days to provide proof of dispatch after that you can pass the claim on to eBay customer service.
I would just wait until the minimum time has passed and then put in a claim rather than contacting them. if you paid by PayPal then eBay/PayPal take the money you paid out of their account and put it 'on hold' until the claim is resolved.
One point to remember is that a lot of people post the item without listing it as 'dispatched'.

EDDIE51 Please don't advise people not to contact the seller! I sell hundreds of pounds worth of goods on my EBay shop per month and stipulate please contact me if you have a problem and I will try to resolve it. If you don't contact the seller they have no way of knowing if you have received it. If you then give then negative feedback or low score for shipping its not fair as you have not given them the opportunity to explain or sort the situation. Always contact the seller as soon as possible -most sellers want their buyers to be content , give them positive feedback -and come back to buy more stuff.

^^ normally I agree with you. Contact the seller before you go to eBay, but when as in this case the seller has not done what they say they would do reporting it to eBay guarantees a fast response.

^^^ In this case,it had only been a few days and contacting eBay would have been an over reaction ( in my opinion ). The seller had already had the courtesy to let me know the reason for the original delay. I saw no need to go to eBay for something that was not yet a major problem. As it is,I did not need to contact the seller.
