Think I need to do a systems restore to yesterday if that's possible but have googled til I'm dizzy to find out how to do it. Running windows 8.1 - mainly using firefox.
Came onto AB and kept getting an adobe update warning - tried to do it but it didn't work so think I made a huge mistake and should have ignored it. Now am getting things like 'page couldn't load/ the connection was reset plus the layout on AB has changed with lots of ads between the answers and certain words in bold capitals with a little green icon on the top right of the word. Have run a complete Avast scan with nothing untoward found.
As usual, any advice welcomed. Thank you

PS: You might like to try downloading the Malwarebytes installation file onto a different computer. Then copy it to a USB stick and thence to your troubled machine. Then double-click on it to install the program (watching out for that tick I mentioned above). Then, hopefully you'll be able to run it.
Same on my W8 but this sorted it

Please read the earlier posts. Jeffa provided the same link but when Rsvp tried to install and run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, something else appeared instead. I'm wondering whether the malware actually redirected the link?

A huge, huge thank you to all those who so kindly and patiently helped me out last night when my computer was sick. I have done a systems restore, successfully downloaded anti malware, run antivirus and anti malware scans and my computer is now working like a dream. You are without a doubt THE BEST of THE BEST. Thank you.

As far as I remember what happened was........clicked on an AB thread and a large notice said my Adobe flash (?) needed to be updated as a matter of urgency. I rather stupidly did this then everything seemed to change - see OP for details. I use firefox with Avast antivirus.
It's my guess that you were using that awful Browser....Internet Explorer (which appears to have a compatibility problem with AB)... and were attacked by a 'nastie' which came from somewhere within the AB site.

Anyway, whilst I am pleased that matters have now been resolved, it would be interesting to know what was established by your scans with AV and Malwarebytes.

"It's my guess that you were using that awful Browser"

The OP has said at least twice that he uses FireFox.

HansU I'm afraid I've deleted everything that was found on the malware scan but I can tell you that there were pages of nasty stuff - all different names most of which indicated it was a PUP (potentially unwanted programme?) which I'm sure makes sense to you. The anti virus scan showed very little apart from 'some files couldn't be scanned' but that's been there for months. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
Thanks rsvp for your reply to my posting. Jeffa has pointed-out that you were using Firefox. I am sorry for having failed to note that fact from your original postings.........(Perhaps I should go to Specsavers instead of Boots.)

No problems Hans - I'm really impressed and grateful for the amount of time and trouble ABers take to help out other people. Stay well :-)
