There are a number of words for him, but,
I have no desire to be banned from AB!
I've just seen it on the TV news - it dismayed me - but there (disgracefully) no worse than JS molesting seriously ill people in the hospitals....
Are our children no longer safe from anyone these days?
-- answer removed --
Its not often that I am at a loss for words but ......
Words are not enough -so very sad to think the most vulnerable are in danger even in a place that should be safe.
Clearly one can not tell those with a serious mental issue by seeing them, or even working with them. Not sure how you catch this sort of thing before they get into a position to abuse.

Its the fact that he's a doctor that makes it worse for me
The most distressing thing I found (as a catholic) about the clergy abuse was the fact that we trust these people with our children
The betrayal is even greater
This story has been "bubbling" away for a few months, since he was first arrested. We as a nation still can't seem to get our heads around the concept of child abuse and its existence in every walk of life. New cases are appearing in the Press on a daily basis.

Our prisons will soon be overflowing with paedophiles, not burglars and thieves.
He may yet do the decent thing and end it all, leaving air and space for a normal human being to use.
Douglas...but will it stop this sort of thing occurring again ? I am concerned that children are still being abused all over Britain on a daily basis. Hospitals should be places of safety but perhaps that is no longer the case, and we should react accordingly.

I have a friend who is a choirmaster in a local Church, and he now makes sure he is chaperoned by one of the kids parents, every time he has choir practise. Maybe Hospitals should consider doing the same ?

AOG, don't be so naïve.

It has always been going on, just never reported before.

One of my elderly female relatives (now dead) said she was molested about 75 years ago when she was 5 by an "uncle" so it is nothing new.

I am sure it has been going on all through history, just not reported.
We would appear to have crossed the Rubicon when our kids are no longer safe in a Hospital. We have to think the unthinkable.
Im shocked!!
Perhaps we shouldn't be shocked Smowball. This sort of thing is being exposed almost every day in the Press.

Interesting documentary on Radio 4 tomorrow night ( Tuesday)

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04grs67

After having read Simon Danczuk's Book about Cyril Smith, I am no longer shocked or surprised anymore, but the program should be illuminating for those who have yet to realise how prevalent sexual abuse of young boys is.

A crucial quote from the program ::::

"Alan Collins, a specialist child abuse lawyer representing some of the men who're suing Rochdale Council over abuse at Know View, believes things would have been different had Cyril Smith been prosecuted and convicted: "That would have sent a clear message through Rochdale and much further afield that there was clearly a problem and that problem would not have been so easy to brush away. I think that had a very long tail and that that tail continued right up until recent times."
Of course it won't stop it happening again, but it will rid the world of a predatory sex offender and save taxpayers the cost of looking after him in jail.

No Douglas - I disagree
This is a highly intelligent, highly educated man
There must be some use he can be put to whilst behind bars
beggars belief !
as a bum boy perhaps, ric?

He will probably have to spend his miserable existence in solitary, anyway.
