Obviously not human ones.

Just reading another thread about soft shell crap and someone mentioned that they were baby crabs.

Do you feel guilty at choosing the young offspring of an animal as it's more succulent such as soft crabs, veal, baby chickens, calves, lamb and so on or do you say meat is meat and the younger the better?

♫ I'm not the pheasant plucker, I'm the pheasant pluckers son
And I'm only plucking pheasants 'til the pheasant plucker comes ♫
Not just me then Jomlif.
Hands up if you have ingested jelly babies.
Only the heads, Daisy
Different kettle of fish Daisy, I like the black ones and I bite their heads off.
I know of a few people that won't eat lamb "because it's a baby".
Ridiculous.
You either eat meat (or fish) or you don't. It's all the same.
The 'lambs' that are sold in butchers shops are hardly delicate little prancy things.
Exactly!

It's so stupid.
Not human or animal ones. Jelly maybe... bite off their feet first so they can't run away !

LOL, I had to look it up, scrivens - it's baby CHEDDAR (whatever that is!) http://www.pepperidgefarm.com/ProductDetail.aspx?catID=772&prdID=120541
I suppose I'd rather animals sentient enough to appreciate their surroundings did get a 'decent' length of life, but I'm not overly precious about it. So long as they enjoy whatever they have and do not suffer I think that covers any moral aspects. Generally speaking I don't give it a lot of thought. Quality of life being better than length. They all have to go at some point.
It being a young animal would bother me at all. I hardly eat any meat though.
I do sometimes nibble them a little , they are irresistible.

Lets not mention fish roe, caviar, suckling pig and veal then
Soft shell crabs are NOT baby crabs.
It is illegal to land juvenile crabs.
All crabs moult their shells throughout their lives and a soft shell crab is one that has just moulted but their new shell hasn't yet hardened,
We are in complete agreement Mrs.O

We're very horrible sometimes to the living things we like to eat, when they are still alive :-(
