Mr P and I are looking to get away in January for a week of sun (stop me going mental with my SAD). Ideally a shortish flight, no more than 4 hours.

Any suggestions?

Tenerife, you will be Suited there 2sp weather Good.
I'd choose Lanzarote over Tenerife.
Lanzarote is very windy though and we went in June.

We went to Loro Parc in Tenerife on a day trip from Gran Canaria a few years back, so that's a possibility.

I'll have a look at Lanzarote too.

In a perfect world we could fly there from our local airport instead of going from Glasgow or Edinburgh. Sometimes the drive to the airport is longer than the flight!
Gives a lovely tan though Sher. We went At Christmas and I don't remember much wind.
Maybe we we unlucky, can remember being cold in the middle of the day when the clouds came over and the wind started up.
Lanzarote was quite warm in the daytime, but bit chilly at night, but it was in December. Slight wind throughout the day, not not enough to feel chilled.

It was December when we went to Gran Canaria and we found it to be warm enough for us.

Still took my factor 50 with me though.
Suck your belly button in and go to Aswan or Luxor ?
We've been to Tenerife for the last 5 Xmases and hopefully a 6th this year (not booked yet). December is the worst month, but it's still nice and warm - usually low to mid 20 deg C.
Night time is quite comfortable in t shirt and jeans.
If you do decide to go to Tenerife, head to the south - Playa Las Americas; Los Cristianos; Costa Adeje .... etc ... as the north is usually cloudier than the south.
You'll be about 5 hours in the air, won't you, flying from a Scottish airport to the Canaries - is that OK with you? it's 4.5 hours from Gatwick.

Thanks everyone for all your replies.
Try Morocco. Closer than you think. Not anti-booze. Plenty to see, historic sites, cabarets, bazaars/souks and more.
Gran Canaria is always popular for winter sunshine. Have a great time. xx
