I had a call earlier and was still groggy from lack of sleep and medication and got a call from "01913009015" Who knew my name and had my new mobile phone no and said they were a Ppi company. I took out a loan a few years ago and am broke so answered quite a few questions as they said they'd send me a pack to fill in i thought that I may be able to get some money back which is well needed.

They asked have I taken any more loans out/Have I been bankrupt/Do I owe anything on any cards/ Did I take out ppi and a few others

I don't think I gave out any too personal details but I did tell roughly how much the loan was. Roughly the year I took it out. The bank I took it out with and my date of birth and my postcode and employer I was with when I took the loan(Stupid I know)

I wasn't going to give bank details, pin numbers or anything more personal.

I've looked up the number and some are saying it's phishers some say scammers and others say sales/ppi.

Does anyone know whether these people are legit and if not have I given out too much information? Could they do anything with the information I've given? If so what can I do to protect myself now?

They said they'll send me out a pack and will phone me next wednesday and I've since blocked their number.

What happens if you damage someones eardrums? Isn't that assault?
If they ring you again, Henrietta, tell them that you've decided to make the claim direct to your loan company, you don't need third parties making claims on your behalf. They're only in it for the money, they don't care about you. I must admit signing up for the Caller Preference Service has reduced our cold calling calls to almost nothing - IMO, it's well worth it.
I use the Obiter technique too. Caller not recognised, let them use the answerphone - they never do.

I think I'll try that boxtops.
The trouble with caller preference service is that it only seems to work with calls generated in the UK. Calls routed from abroad still manage to get through.
No obiter, CPR say they stop overseas too, and I still don't get the calls these days. Henrietta - it's £40 a year but well worth it, IMO - much better than TPS in our experience. http://www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk/register.html?gclid=CNKm27j82MACFVMRtAod7BoAiQ

Does that work on mobile phones?
You can add a mobile phone to your registration, yes. Have a look at the link I just sent you.
