Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Yet again xstitcher has come to my recuse with ideas for a theme. So here are a few suggestions, obviously the interent is filled with all sorts of stuff so I have stuck with the diabetes.org site.

Here are some great suggestions for breakfast:

and a main meal:

New month, new me....I say that every time, but believe me, these threads really help to motivate me. Thanks Ed and the regulars here. See you Wednesday bright and early, no promises mind you!
Hi Maydup same here . I missed weigh in last week just completely forgot with being bank holiday .but it does help to come on every wednesday gain or lose . When I think of it xstitcher and I started this 3 years ago and I lost 2 stone . Not put it back on but struggling with this other stone I want off .i have cut my portions down and also changed to brown whole meal bread as I do like toast in the mornings with a boiled egg but not every morning . I alternate with cereals and as a treat have lean bacon on Sunday .
I just wonder what diet one would follow who is coeliac and cannot take gluten free products because they cause problems with digestive system, has dairy intolerance and various other food intolerances that cause lung congestion et al? Can one get a hand held pistol and one bullet on prescription? (Smile)
Hi Dunnitall, it certainly sounds like a challenge, but although I'm not allergic, i do my best to avoid wheat and I eat no meat so I do understand how difficult a limited diet is.

Start with a fridge full of your favourite vegetables, plenty of soup and salads and some tinned beans and pulses.

Have a look at some new recipes such as these

chickpea curry
http://www.food.com/recipe/curried-chickpeas-and-veggies-296566

Mushroom and lentil bake
http://realfood.tesco.com/recipes/mushroom-and-lentil-bake.html

And if you eat meat and fish, have it with plenty of veg and and how about a nice baked sweet potato?

Don't miss out on the comfort food either. There's nothing wrong with a nice cottage pie or a traditional and filling stew especially as we approach the autumn.

I like your saying, Maydup; "New month, new me". I'm really going to try this month :-)
Hello Dunnitall and welcome . I don't know what to suggest as not knowing much about it . If anyone reads this they might come back with replies if they suffer the same condition . It really needs someone that has it to help you .
Hi Dunnitall,

Welcome to our friendly little club. I think Maydup said it so well. We just stick to healthy eating and healthy portions. We try to keep the fat in any foods to 10% and under and watch the carb and calories. Since I found out that I had diabetes 2 last May and began making diabetic foods (which are surprisingly delicious) I have steadily lost weight so it was a blessing in disguise. I now recommend it to all.
Meat is a treat and fish and chicken a stable. You know what you can't eat so the trick is building up around that and finding substitutes when possible. It sounds like hard work but it s only at the beginning while you find your way.

Thank you Auntie, do we know you??? :-))
Now I realize who you are Auntie, sorry that it took so long for the penny to drop.
Well good morning all. I'm down 1 pound this week. It would have been less than that had I not found mini pizzas in my supermarket. We decided on a treat yesterday....I know bad timing, but it was our wedding anniversary. They are just 5 " in diameter so with a nice salad really really fit the bill.
Success 1lb loss but that is over 2 weeks as I did not weigh last week.I know I am not 100% committed. I am careful but not good enough to get this stone off . Only way I can do it as I keep telling everyone is to plan my weeks meals and write everything down.so back to the drawing board .
Good morning all. I'm 1/2lb down today but I'm determined to do better this month. If I can lose 1lb a week for the next 14 weeks, that's one stone and a great big dress size lost for Christmas. Sorry to mention the C word, but how good would that be?!

Hi Maydup you want to lose a stone I want to lose a stone lets go for it before xmas.
well done xstitcher top of the class again .
Well done you guys.
I have a a stone and a pound to loose after I reach my first goal. I am giving myself until next spring because it will be the hardest to loose and maybe that is pushing it. It has taken me since Feb. to loose 10 kilos and it had been slow going BUT STEADY. That steady bit is good.
