A little hard lump has developed on my forehead over the last couple of days. It is under the skin and is a little red around. It is not overly painful though there is an uncomfortableness with it. What can be done to get rid of it?

it depends what is causing the lump.

Almost certainly a sebaceous cyst.
No big deal....not malignant.
If it is unsightly, then see you GP who will have it removed surgically under local anaesthetic.

Quite common.

Seriously, surgical removal. Holy proverbial.
nothing drastic, a small local, a snick with a scalpel, the lifting of the cyst sac out, make sure it is clean, one stitch and its there. less than 15 mins in the doctors op room, unless you opt for brain surgery.....
I had something like this and the doctor said it was nothing to worry about but if I wanted it removing I'd have to pay for it as the NHS didn't deem it a priority. A few weeks later it became infected and a doctor on the cruise ship removed it...........

I've just had my fourth removed by doctor (in my hair), the fifth one is there behind my crown but not big enough yet. Seriously, it's not a big deal.

My mind is put at ease somewhat but I always chuckle when people mention simple GP procedures, they have obviously never experienced the doctors around our way, almost everything is referred on to a hospital. Thanks for the responses, hope to get an appointment with the doctor some day soon.
Flob, only certain GP practices are licensed to undertake this sort of procedure - that's why they'd refer you. Round here, one practice does it on behalf of several local practices, so we get referred to the licensed practice for minor surgery for moles and the like.
\\\\\almost everything is referred on to a hospital. \\\

and that is the way it should be done. Good GP's in my opinion.
LOL sqad, we've been here before - not the way it is in today's primary care :-)
