Does anyone know who gives buyers and sellers a removal date? Is it the solicitors or estate agents? TIA.

I think you mean a 'completion date'. It has to be a date agreed on between the buyer and seller, and then is then made into a binding contract by the solicitors.
The estate agents have nothing to do with the legal aspect of a sale of property.
Once they have sorted all of the searches and the finance they will let you know, kat-kin.

Completion date,I couldn't think what the word was Khandro. It's more or less to settle the question between my daughter and me. She said twas the estate agent earlier but now I can tell her different..thanks.

You and your buyer tell the solicitors when you want to complete and all agree the date. The solicitors are there to act for you not the other way round.

Ladybirder, This has been going on since June! My buyer had some problems with his buyer,then his solicitor went on holiday for 6 weeks. The estate agent for the house I'm buying keeps ringing me saying my vendor will back out if he doesn't get a completion date soon. He's not living in the house,it's a legacy from his mum.
Kat-kin my advice would be to talk to your buyer yourself if you can, or use your estate agents to do it for you if you can't, and agree upon a Completion Date between you. Then you both inform your respective solicitors of this date and tell them you would like to Exchange Contracts, say one, two, or however many weeks suits you and your buyer, before the Completion Date. The minute you have Exchange of Contracts you can then both book your removal company with confidence. It is quite common nowadays to have Exchange and Completion on the same day but the trouble with that is it can all fall apart, even on the day, as no contracts have been exchanged. BTW it is a poor excuse from your buyer that their solicitor was away on holiday for 6 weeks as another solicitor should have been covering the work during that time. Your estate agents should be willing to help you set these dates as they don't get paid until Completion. The quickest I have ever moved was 6 weeks, the slowest was 4 months.
So agree your dates with buyer, inform solicitor and make sure these are achievable, once exchanged book removals. Good Luck.
