I bought a solar topiary ball/hanging basket from Homebase yesterday hoping I would just hang it up and at night on it would come.
Well there is a solar panel with a stake and loads of cable - its going to look rubbish

we've got some fairy lights, with a solar panel, but we just hang the panel next to the lights. You might be able to trim the cable, and eat the stake medium rare.

Wrap the wire around the chain the ball is hanging on and put the solar panel somewhere on the hanging bracket towards the sun. There is no need to place the stake in the ground. Or take it back -I'm sure the checkout person at Homebase will get over it eventually, perhaps with counselling :-)
Homebase allows customers to change their minds and have a policy of refunding the purchase amount, up to a period of 30days.

Having said that, I would probably keep the item and try to disguise the cable.

Hans.
Take it back, it looks cheap and nasty!
if you don't like taking things back as a friend or a family member to do it on your behalf, you are certainly entitled to your money back, or have you thrown the receipt away ?

///Baldric, you shouldn't have to look at reviews at the bottom of the page to see what you get in the package///

Agreed, but I'm willing to bet it was on the packaging!
Take it back now - "they" are not bovvered.
Folk will probably not notice the thin cable. It'll be fine.
