We live in desert area in Abu Dhabi. I feed wild birds every day. This morning a yellow parakeet with a pinkish/ beigey hue to its face has appeared with the others. There seems to be pale blue feathers on its back that I can only see when it's wings are folded. Does anyone know what it is ? Cannot post photograph but any ideas welcome.

Could it be a yellow, peach faced lovebird like this one? http://37.media.tumblr.com/6b13fed3f0807dc9d35265fd1e462432/tumblr_mi853abNmg1rw5970o7_1280.jpg

Oh,very well done. Is it an escaped pet do you think ? What shall I do about it ? It's been here on and off since this morning. Many thanks once again.
Thanks for the best answer but I was wrong.

It is almost definitely an Alexandrine Parakeet which is commonly seen in your region.

If it is a lovebird, it will be an escaped pet.
Ah cross posted there. Is it tame? Can you catch it? Is there a local radio station you could report it to, or a local newspaper?

Sadly, I know nothing of Abu Dhabi.

Definitely not Alexandrine Parakeet. Must be an escaped pet,I did step outside but it flew away as I got closer. How ever it came back almost straightaway. I'll try again later, but thank you.
I love lovebirds :) Hope it works out for the little guy, I believe there are lots of birds of prey in Abu.
Best way to catch a bird is to throw a small towel over it and scoop it up.

Will try tomorrow. He left with all the other birds when it started to get dark. We are 3 hours ahead of UK here. I presume he's a new escapee as he definitely hasn't been in here before. Wii keep you informed of any progress.

He's been here most of the day, arrived just after I put food out at 6am. Have tried to get near him but no luck so far.
If he's eating and drinking, maybe he's best left alone. :)

Just putting early food out for them. When I go back inside will see if he arrives again with the others. It's just after 6am here.
Would love to see a photo. I can't begin to imagine what a garden in the desert area of Abu Dhabi looks like

Sorry hc,am not in the least techno minded. Cannot send photos. Google Al Reef villas in Desert village which is where we live and it might give you a rough idea. Our lawn is plastic as it would cost a mint to lay soil and turf. Thanks for your interest though. The little fellah has been here again all day and seems to get on with the wild birds.
That's great news about the lovebird. :) Off to google your home now.

If you don't mind me asking, how come you live there?
It all looks rather Spanish :)

There are four "villages" in Al Reef. Ours is Desert, also Mediterranean,Contemporary and Arabian. We live here because GY works here,it's only for two years. It's to help pay off the mortgage at home. The little fellah has been back here again all day.
