237SJ - "He`s not just an alcoholic - I think he has mental health problems."

I don't doubt it. even in his playing days, his occasionally bizarre and almost constant immature behaviour was passed of as being a 'lad' or a 'character' because he combined that with being one of the most gifted footballers of his generation.

Now that his footballing skills are absent, the bizarre and immature behaviour is all that remains - and of course, it is no longer the tolerated novelty that it was.
I remember seeing a documentary about him years ago. They had a clinical psychiatrist observing footage of his behaviour. He named three conditions that he said he could observe in Paul Gascoigne`s behaviour. I`ve encountered many alcoholics at work (many of them doing their damndest to get drunk) but according to this girl, his behaviour was on another level.
He's on the same self-destruct path as George Best was, he won't see 60

Sad cos he's one of Spurs' all time greats
Apparently he's Bulimic, Bipolar and has Compulsive Obsessive Disorder so the solution to me would be a Mental Hospital if they still exist where he can get treatment and if necessary not let out until he's ready to cope on his own.
Providing him with a picture of George Best (or diseased livers or anything else) won't help. Alcoholics do not relate their problems to those of anybody else. In fact many of them do not believe they have a problem at all.

What I don't understand about Gascoigne is how he sustains his lifestyle. He has done no meaningful work for many years; he is currently living in a £3m property in Sandbanks (which he is about to be booted out of); he doesn't seem to be short of funds for booze. Any clues, anybody?
Acquiring booze NJ is cheap and easy to obtain and he will no doubt have a retinue of close friends to help fund it. If he went in a pub there would be no shortage of folk who would buy him drinks in exchange for a selfie or an autograph. Funding the 3m property is another matter altogether however
He's 47 and looks 67. I suspect we'll be hearing of his death in the not too distant future.

What is Pi?????Ed,
Is it PigheadEd, PigtailEd or PintsizEd?
There, is everyone from 09:11 & 09:13 happy now?
;o)
At least George Best was handsome :-)
From the photo I saw Gazza seems to have taken his ball off his eye!!

How's that for a spoonerism!
Can't we leave this poor man alone ? He has a serious illness, alcoholism and I for one have every sympathy. He was a mercurial footballer all those years ago and I think we should remember that. Lets leave him in peace please.
agreed mikey,
If he could somehow find peace that might be the first on the road to sobriety. Sadly, I can't see him finding either.
