I posted an entry entitled High Time in the News section recently and have since then certainly not - unless by touching something inadvertently - chosen a 'Best Answer'. However, I now see that one such answer HAS been given that accolade. Since the chosen answer was the second one offered, how on earth would I or anyone else have chosen it as 'best'?
I am not trying to denigrate the answer, as such, but I was never aware that such choices were simply taken out of one's hands. My query, therefore, is: "Are they?"

The original thread which provides the backdrop to this was in the News section 'High Time'. Quizmonster and I have been debating the case for several days. It is a reminder to us all that despite a number of differences in opinion it is possible to have a civil discussion which isn't always the case!

Who knows how long a thread lasts for and whether a 'best answer' comes along very late on. I know you can update it though.
Hans, I think there used to be a night ed and weekend ed and even an assistant ed (who has now become Top Gnome). I don't know which of these offices still exist, though.

Well, a new day has dawned! I really must thank all of you for your input and hereby award a multiple Best Answer to all who contributed.
Thank you, Ed, for clarifying the position; namely, that a 'surprise' Best Answer only ever comes about as a result of a mis-clicking on someone's part...in the current case, clearly, mine.
Cheers
Once upon a time it was actually possible to award BA to yourself.

I must admit that I completely lost track of where this post was heading, where it was supposed to be heading and where it finally ended up.

Morning :-)

is anyone else now desperate to find out who asks so many x word questions, then randomly gives best answer?
//

I am. Is it a 'bot?

Preset 2 minute delay fits perfectly with the max 3 posts per 5 minutes rule.

Or is it a different person winning the BA in consecutive threads?

Do you want a tissue?
Most of us know who the Poster referred to is - they are a bee in the bonnet of one esteemed member.
Mamy....quite a totally unnecessary and sarcastic comment at the end of 108 posts, which does you no credit other than to give you the last word on the subject.

I was simply replying to the post at 15.01 which repeated a post from Black cat - sorry if you take it as such.
er.... I think you can fit FIVE angels on a pin-head ?
Well, in keeping with my user ID, --I don't know enough-- about the goings on in the crossword section to know who Sqad or Mamya are referring to and I don't know Sqad well enough to know which other ABer is the metaphorical bee.

Maybe I shouldn't pry here.

Why does disagreement in opinion have to lead to offence being caused? I stand by my comments earlier in this thread. There has been much deviation in this thread which was an honest question about the award of 'best answer'....
I like getting Best Answer. It pleases me. I am easily pleased.
