Domestic Violence - A Postive Step.

Rather a long time ago, a man got his wife into a mental hospital, claiming she was mad - her only "crime" was to want to leave him because of his behaviour. It took her a fortnight to get herself out of there. I know personally of a husband who read this report and thought he'd be more successful. He told his wife that if she said a single word about his behaviour to anyone they knew - the vicar, the friends from the golf-club, the neighbours - she would find he had already primed them with stories of her psychoses, and they would let him know so that he would get her into the local mental hospital. He told her that even if she got out, mud would stick. She would forever be " that woman who was certified" - even if it wasn't true. If she ever left him, he was sure he'd get the children because of her "mental history". Psychological manipulation is difficult to prove, but this sort of behaviour must be counted as abuse of the worst sort, short of violence.

Atalanta - that brings it all home. Let's hope that we see more successful prosecutions if these proposals come to fruition.

I fear it'll end up like most other family/domestic laws -stacked up in favour of the female. Any male who attempts to utilise it will be not taken seriously.

Any incident? I hope they are busy building jails - both male and female.

This will need to be thought through deeply. It is easy to cite clear cut cases but where are the borders and lines to cross?

Plod are not the most intelligent creatures God put on the earth and this will lead to many arrests, probably simply to compile the DNA database, mugshots and fingerprints they want so dearly.

All those things are grounds for divorce. If the abused partner hasn't the mental strength to leave and instigate proceedings, they won't have the courage to report it to the police.
When the person has left the family home, or kicked the abusive partner out, there are laws in place to stop harrassment, stalking and so on.

In any event, it is one person's word against another. Has the police got the resources to deal with this sort of thing? I very much doubt it, too much time is wasted already on domestic violence cases where the abused partner withdraws charges/refuses to testify at the last minute, often the same people time after time, after time.

The state should not be acting as mediators between couples.

Yes a positive step indeed providing of course it works both ways ie man or woman, but already it looks as if it won't judging by the image on the report and also as it was welcomed by some woman support group person on the radio today.

If fact some women are pass masters at acts of psychological control behaviour, as there are many men who are considered 'under the thumb'.
