As in blow/blue - waste money
Question Author
Thanks but can't find blue = blow in Chambers Thesaurus or anywhere. If it's a homophone then surely it would be "squandered" in definition?
What's the full clue please?
Question Author
Oh yes I see it down there at 27 in Collins. Never come across it as a slang word. Thanks.
Question Author
Sorry factor-fiction. Clue was "special pair of queens in 24 down (8)". 24 down is "blue".
As I said above blue = squander is unfamiliar to me.
Shouldn't the BA go to scorpiojo?
Question Author
Sorry yes it should but I'm new here and have b????d it up.
so it's Q AND ER. I'm not sure where the S comes from - is that from 'special'?
S(pecial) is often used by setters FF
Thanks, dannyk- I didn't know that.

Yep. Some Grauniad setters love one-letter abbreviations even they don't occur in common usage.
