Can anyone please advise me on a camera for my son.I want to buy him a DSLR camera,as he has shown an interest in them, and as it is his 18th,I thought it might be a good thing for him to build on.Problems are:-
1.I messed up BADLY....the camera that I thought ticked all the boxes,a Canon SX30 IS, had really impressive reviews, and met well within budget, turns out it is a bridging camera,ie you don't buy lenses/filters for it.Thankfully the seller is giving me a full refund.
2.I have only 2 weeks left......
3.Everything I have learnt is now swimming around in the grey sludge that was once my brain and I feel like a headless chicken with every day that passes. It did not help that the 'friends' I asked for advice from have suddenly left the country, and the whole family is now in the grips of a horrid tummy bug.
I was going to buy online anyway,I don't like to get out and about much now cos of my disability, but after discovering the Canon was a bridge, confidence in myself has also plummeted.
He will be using the camera for many different types of photography, which will change every few weeks as he grows,so I am not that hung up on what type of photography a certain one is supposed to be good at,but thought with the lenses available it will be up to him.I am restrained by a budget of around £200,but no more than another 10%(Hubby will need time to see that this is well worth the money, yes I know you can buy them for under £40,but point and shoot? Please?!?)
Any advice as to what camera,or where from would be wonderful, and I promise my son will mention you in his first mega money book. :)

AnswerBank does it again!!
Thank you everyone who answered, firstly, the camera arrived this morning, and WOW.When they say refurbished, they mean it.There is not one tiny mark on it,honestly I am scared to touch it,it is so pristine. The instruction book is also as new,and there are 3 disks, again as new.I am going to have a proper look,(that is how I found out my mistake last time)try the battery, charge it.There seems to be a proper Canon strap(again brand new) and charger too.The only thing that is not Canon is the memory card(and I was not expecting that anyway)

But,you know I said it seemed too good to be true,I think I was right, because the listing now has the price as £100 MORE!!!!That would of been out of my price range.I admit I was a little concerned about delivery,so I just sent a 'worried mum wants her sons birthday present in time please' e-mail yesterday.Less than 24 hours later I have it.

None of this would of happened without the advice you all gave me though,so the biggest thanks is to everyone who helped me on my epic DSLR trip.I know more about these cameras than I ever thought I would,I have some good shops to fall back on,but I know if he ever needs too,my son can always get brilliant advice here.

Thank you everyone, drinks on the house, and a mention in Son's first best selling mega money book!
:))))))) Aya.
So pleased it turned out well for you aya. Hope your son spends many happy hours clicking away:-)
Excellent news :o)
Hi,
I would suggest you to increase your budget a little and go for the CANON EOS 250D Digital SLR Camera + 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6 III Lens. It comes with 24.1 megapixel sensor and a 3 inch touchscreen display. The 4K recording is the main futureproof feature of the DSLR camera.
