MIL has got severe arthritis in her hands and fingers, among other things, and has trouble getting her tablets out of the blister packs they come in, so we're looking for a weekly pill box with 'easy' opening lids - she can't manage the normal flip up ones - fingers no longer agile enough! Looking for something with a longer tab that protrudes over the edge of the box, making 'flipping' open easier. Any ideas pse ??

If you google diability aids I am sure there are several types which hopefully will be helpful.
That's a good link pixie. Has set me wondering why are the pills in blister pack anyway. I don't have arthritis in my hands and still I sometimes find it difficult to push the pills out. Better with the old bottle - took cotton wool from top and extracted as many pills as were needed.
Yes jennyjoan they were certainly easier but if you are sorting probably several medications out for a week an easier altogether container for each day is required.
Some people use egg cups, too.
Hi pixie, hope you are well, yet another problem of the "joys and pleasure" of life as we get older lol.
I think you can request that your medication is prescribed in packs with compartments that are easy to open, with the dosages marked on them. Ask at your surgery.
I got a very simple 7-compartment container from my chemist - have you looked there? They do have a flip lid, you need the lid to be reasonable stiff otherwise the pills just fall out. Ask your pharmacist.
Hi vakayu, sorry, been back and forth working. I'm fine thanks. You? Xx
maye, as smoney has said, there are special 'blister packs' you can get through your mother in laws pharmacy. Is she on a repeat prescription? In my mums case someone came to the house & looked at all her medication, took this information away & she then started to receive a kind of cardboard wallet with tabs in sections for morning/ afternoon/ evening that were extremely easy to push out. Please enquire to see if this service is available for your mil .

Its the power to push, grip or flip that she's lost. I've trawled the internet without any luck and was hoping for a personal recommendation from someone on here.
Does your local chemist not do a service like ours? The chemist will collect the prescription and fill the pill container, you take the empty one back and they replace it with a full one.
Plenty suggestions on this thread mayennaise, have you tried the chemists?
It sounds as though she would be unable to open the usual ones. If she is safe with her medication, i would suggest eggcups (with post-its, if needed).
