This is a problem that infuriates me ... I have tried all sorts of washing powder, softeners and tumble drying but I still end up with crispy towels!

As we see using reuseable nappies on newborn, I really don't want him bum to be exfoliated every time he wears a nappy!

I have checked online and apparently we have soft water in wrexham .. We are line drying at the moment, but even if we dry in rads, clothes maid or tumble dryer -- it's all the same

(Washing machine is less than 2 years old)

Thanks in advance

I've tried those tumble dryer balls and found my clothes came out smelling of rubber :(
I think they are softer from a tumble dryer than dried outside or on radiators.
meglet, you have been using the wrong sort of balls, tumble dryer balls are made of hard plastic not rubber.
Oh.
They make great toys for pups to play with as well.....
Definitely pop them in the tumble drier after hanging them out first to get them partially dry.
Hi Flick, I had the same trouble with towels. I was spinning at 1400 thinking this was best but they still dried brick hard. Turned the spin down to 1000, although the towels are wetter they are soft when dry. Worked for me.

Thanks peeps - will try some balls, no softener, and Calgon!
:-)
Fabric softener and tumble driers are the work of the devil - just bung them on the line. The windier it is the softer they dry but who cares? My kids were reared in old-fashioned nappies that were dried this way and there was never a problem - they didn't end up with sore bums.
Heavens above, so many fabulously wealthy folks on here able to afford to tumble dry towels.
All the advice is good, but cheap thin towels will never be 'soft and fluffy' you need the highest quality towels they are expensive but worth looking after by washing and drying as said here.

Cheap towels can NEVER be 'soft and Fluffy' no matter what you do to them!
I love thin towels - they are so easy to get in between the cracks.
^^ You have a thin crack then?
Eddie - wish I did have a thin crack - that's the problem - the thin crack is concealed with two fat cheeks.

I have never seen a modern washing machine with out a filter, you are supposed to clean the filter at least once a month.
Washing machines destroyed by washing towels !!! sorry methyl, but you seem to post a load of rubbish sometimes.
