No Hans, I'm on Chrome with AB (which I think the screendump might show as it happens). At work, i access AB with IE but because, I suspect, the firewalls and security are so tight, pictures, videos and adverts don't appear and neither does this problem.

I know I've suggested it before but have you actually run a scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware?

It seems almost certain that there's malware on your computer which is generating that message.

Further, if you've actually clicked on that link at any stage, run a thorough scan with your antivirus program as well. It's possible that you might have put something like the dreaded Cryptolocker onto your computer, which could activate itself at any time:

Accordingly, it is important that you follow Buenchico's advice and report back on what is the outcome of the scans which he has suggested.

Did Ed spot the thread from Baldric yesterday about the spam site which was trying to install itself (I think it was called "Do I or Don't I"). I'm not putting up a link because the damned thing came our way too and it took us hours to get rid of it. We had a nasty suspicion that it might have sneaked in via AB...

OK I'll run malwarebytes later and report back. Obviously I've never actually clicked the link.

Some of these answers imply that's it a problem confined to me and my laptop when in fact I've seen it raised loads of times on here. I even posted about it last week (when the problem re-appeared after sevral weeks without problem) and Ed thought he'd fixed it, he didn't tell me to run any scans so he must know a solution that doesn't involve me.

@Prudie.....I think the Techies members of AB, such as Buenchico and Methyl, would wish you to download and run the free edition of Malwarebytes. I certainly would, although I Do Not regard myself as an AB Techie, but someone who is interested in Technology and has a genuine wish to help folk, if I can.

My understanding of Prudie's question is that it has nothing to do with whether one does or should have Java- it's about an annoying popup/advert (purporting to be from Java but clearly a fake) that keeps coming up on AnswerBank. Ed seems to be aware of the issue because he has dealt with it previously but the issue seems to reappear from time to time

Quite agree with what your saying but if you do not have 'Java' on your pc then anything that pops up suggesting you 'update' your Java is obviously spurious.

AB Editor would appear to have some problems with this possible rogue in containing it, but we also as users need to be vigilant.
