The other thread about Prince George has set me wondering.
Mr F has green eyes,
I have hazel eyes,
number 1 son has the darkest brown and number 2 son has silvery grey.
I don't have a clue how that would work.
Anyone?

Not me anyway as the genetics of eye colouration is very complicated even for the academically qualified and genetic mutation for eye colour is not that uncommon.

Are you suggesting that Mr F may not be their father?........;-)
Grey and green are forms of blue. Perhaps hazel is a form of brown- that would explain both.

You little stirrer Squad, I KNOW who is the daddy :)
I always thought the gene for dark eyes was dominant, but it does skip generations. My OH's dad had very dark brown eyes, his mum has Blue, but OH has one bright green eye and one blue/ hazel eye.

My great uncle also had one green and one blue.
My gran had deepest brown. Grandad had light blue.
Go back in your family - grandparents, uncles, aunts, and you will almost certainly find the colours of the eyes of one or two of them will match those of your sons. My youngest has blue eyes - his parents have brown and greeny-brown. But my aunt had blue eyes, so I must be carrying a recessive gene for blue eyes.
