How could a puppy be determined to be of satisfactory quality?

If it is a private sale ie not the seller's business, the animal need only be as described and need not be fit for purpose nor a particular quality.

Thank you. That was what I thought. I have just re-read the act and the deciding factor seems to be whether or not the seller was in business. I was curious as to how 'fitness' could be decided on a living animal.

If you were to buy a pony advertised as 'good hack, sound in traffic' and it was a nervous wreck on the road it would not be 'fit for purpose'.

A dog advertised as 'good with children' should be.

A parrot advertised as a 'good talker' should talk.
