Do we need to know the news through out the world or do the news media need to tell us .just because there is so much going on and we can do nothing about it so why should we know ,those that it effect already know it .Is that burying the head in the sand or is it valid point of view.

Weecalf, I do think you have a point, one I have often voiced. The news (good and bad) is delivered straight into our living rooms these days. I don't need or want to know about some of it - OK it could be the ostrich view, but I can't personally do anything about most of it, it just scares the pants of us most of the time. Tell me about things which affect me, not stuff I can't do anything about.
Some people (like myself) are interested in knowing what's going on around the globe even though it doesn't affect me. News channels are there to make money, if they didn't show the news they'd go bust wouldn't they?
I'm not uninterested, rocky - I don't want to return to pigeon post - but I don't need it in the quantity we get it these days....
Before national newspapers and then the internet you could say the same about the UK.

That is possibly the reason that before newspapers and before the internet there was hardly any crime in the UK.
You can more or less regulate how much news you watch though, listening to what suits. Sky News is on most of the day here while the kids are at school and always first thing in the morning, sometimes it bores the pants off me and other days can be very interesting, when it's boring I switch over. I don't let things I hear worry me unduly and I'd rather be informed than not to be honest :)
I'm sure you are right - and I've learned what to be bothered about and which not - but I do feel for people with anxieties etc., who have no much bad news and scary stuff thrust at them these days.
