You could try LP recorder (shareware) which can be found on various computer mag free cd-roms or at http://downloads.theregister.co.uk/Windows/Music/WAVPlayersandUtilities/WAVPlayersandUtilities1.html

where you can also get a demo of LP ripper which allows you to rip individual tracks from the full side recording

hi dodds...--download audacity from:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
it is free--install it then connect ur record deck to the line in socket on ur pc--depending on ur record deck u may need what is called a pre-amp--cost about 20--this amplifies the output from ur record deck which otherwise may be too weak to drive ur sound card on ur pc--run audacity and choose line in as ur source--play ur lp and click record at same time--ideally u want to record each track seperately otherwise u end up with 1 large sound file and cannot play individual tracks when u burn it to cd
i meant to add u can record and burn them as normal audio cd or to get more on a disk--mp3

Thankyou steve0 & ajmmac will try both of these sites to see which one I can understand as I am still a novice at recording.I have purchased a screened cable from Maplins and put the white & red jack from my HI-FI and one blue jack to my computer, but the rest I am worried incase I make a mistake. Thanks to you both once again.
don't worry about making mistakes--nothing u can really do that will damage anything--post back if u have any further problems--good luck--
