I am in the process of closing a bank account with the Halifax and need to know if I will still have access to the statements.

I will still have one account and a couple of savings accounts open with them [and accessible via online banking] but will the ability to view past statements for the closed account be lost? I need them for tax purposes.

Maybe not but I think the Halifax are the ones to ask.

If I try to log into my old mortgage account with Nationwide I find the account number is no longer recognised so old statements unavailable.

Thank you I did think as much.

I think you'll need to check with your bank, but if not could always leave a fiver in just to keep it open provided it's not an account your being charged for. You could ask for printed statements for your records but they will charge or print them out yourself.
