Onwards and Downwards Continues in May 2014

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

Rice - is a really healthy but sometimes forgotten ingredient? Apart from alongside a curry or chilli what is it good for? Have done a quick search and come up with these tasty looking recipes:

I know its risotto and that can be seen as boring but it can be a really handy thing to have a few portions of in the freezer as a quick lunch or accompaniment with your evening meal:

Or egg fried rice is always a great way to use up left over ingredients you can pretty much add anything:

Maybe a good way to jazz things up is to use more interesting rice like brown, wild or quinoa?

Here is a healthy sprinkle for your salads : you need one piece of toasted brown bread and one crispy rasher of bacon. Grind them up to "sprinkle" size and store in a little plastic bowl. You can add your own tweaks to this basic idea.

Oh wow, of course it is Wednesday already isn’t it. What with a Bank Holiday and a day’s leave tagged on, it doesn’t seem that far into the week.

Whilst I do not recall the details, I did weight this morning and can say from memory that my weight is up once again. Very disheartening.

Of course, one of the things that holds me back is this terrible affliction I have of working taste buds; for sure I could not warm to the raw vegetable matter you guys seem so enthusiastic about. Lucky you. For me, life & lunch has to be worthwhile.
I would much rather have something else than salads and do quite often but they are a necessity and not that bad really. I think it is a man thing not to like anything green OG.
Beetroot is purple, Peas are green but ought not be hard after cooking. [shrug]

Hmmm... I see I was ⅜lbs up on the week. I think I've been on that unfortunate trend for quite some weeks now. I suppose eating out twice over the last few days hasn't helped though. Still not another BH until the end of August. I'll try to see that as a useful fact.
I seem to weigh almost two pounds more in the early morning and then go down an hour later. I'm buying a new battery and see if that helps. I've weighed myself every day for the past week because I just couldn't believe that 2 pound gain last week. ho hummmmmmmmm
Hello everyone, Ive been putting on weight bit by bit and having problems with wil power. Im going to weigh myself every day from now on, like OG, until Im back in hand :-(
The trouble with daily weighing is that one sees sudden jumps and can not immediately account for them. (I think weight change seems to lag increased intake by a couple of days but I have no idea how.) I had a ridiculous unaccountable jump upwards yesterday and it's barely lower today. Got 5 days to try to get back to where I was Wednesday !
Ok, thanks for the warning. I will try not to be disheartened if I have sudden jumps, and goodness only pays off two days later. I will weigh myself every day, but only record my weight on Wednesdays. :-)
I'm doing that too Marijn and it makes me feel that I'm in more control.
Yes I am beginning to agree with that . Will give it a go as I have the habit of staying the same .
It's good you're doing it too, Xstitcher and Wendilla. I had a bad reading on the scales this morning, but I'm trying not to let it dishearten me, but it's difficult.
I hope all this staggering out to the scales to get weighed first thing every morning.....all that squinting just to be able to read them; is going to have some positive effect.

I forgot to get weighed this morning so it will be mañana for me.

Yes I have seen that we have been forgotten this month. I went onto the ed's blog yesterday and gave him a gentle nudge, but no result. Hope he is okay. Meanwhile I guess we just keep on going here.
Morning all not got a proper reading as scales are playing silly beggers getting 3 different readings one said 3 stone loss I guess it is stuck there from 3 years ago lol. Must get new batteries.
Wow, yet again I forgot it was 'fess up day'.

Anyway, I dropped a whole ⅞lbs. But that has been after a ridiculously high set of readings of late.
Daily readings only help if they confirm you're not getting something right and you take action to correct it. Or confirm you are getting it right and you resist the temptation to have a treat food in celebration. I do it simply because I feel a need to know.
Errr.... it occurs to me, one of the originators could create a June thread ;-)
