Why is the Daily Mail publishing so many anti-UKIP stories?

We are often told how the so-called 'lefties' are running scared of UKIP, but why is the UK's leading right-of-centre newspaper (which seems to share so many values with UKIP) publishing so many anti-UKIP stories?

If you look at any of these stories and sort the readers' responses into top rated order, you can see that Daily Mail readers strongly support UKIP, so why on earth doesn't the Daily Mail throw it's weight behind the party.

Like I said before, UKIP policies seem broadly in line with the politics of both the Daily Mail and it's readership...so why so many anti-UKIP stories?

Isn't it like someone who loves sausage rolls, baps and bakes, campaigning against Greggs The Baker?

I'd quite like another vote. A referendum held 14 years before I was born can hardly be said to represent what I voted for... Why is this so hard to understand? And I'd like to have the chance to vote "yes" to the EU as well.

Saying that the 1975 referendum is the last word of the British people is nonsensical. In the 40 years since the EU has changed greatly. Another vote seems appropriate -- regardless of the result, it's surely high time that we were consulted again.

I agree. The last time Britain voted it voted to stay in what was then a very different organisation. Over the years the British people got rather more than they bargained for.
Heath, Thatcher, Major and Blair were all democratically elected and then signed us on for more Treaties. When we returned them to Government we knew they were all pro-European but we made them Prime Minister anyway. It is therefore a bit spurious to claim the electorate have not had a say. By electing those people to do our bidding for us we had made a choice.
was there an alternative?
