Oh yes sp1814 In my opinion the best ever English gangster film, also the different roles he played in The Singing Detective and Pennies from Heaven. I feel he was rather under used till I read about his illness. So sad.
Oh dear...just came in and heard the news...ghastly...I always enjoyed Bob, especially in Mona Lisa and the Long Good Friday.
very sad news good actor
I appear to be at odds with the concensus here - i thought BH was a lousy actor with one personality which he used in every film - the range from A to B and back again.

Sad for those who liked him though.

His one excellent movie was The Long Good Friday, where his coarse London wide-boy personna fitted perfectly into the role - not so in almost everything else he did though.
apologies for duplication divegirl.had not seen this
Yes very sad news, I also enjoyed him in 'Pennies from Heaven' where he played Arthur, a sheet music salesman.

1978 Mini TV series.

Just heard the news. RIP Bob, you will be missed.
whirlyhurly, as far as I can remember, Bob Hoskins wasn't in The Singing Detective (Michael Gambon). Both Pennies from Heaven and The Singing Detective were written by Dennis Potter.
Scene from my favourite film starring him.
RIP.

I hope his early retirement, though enforced by the diagnosis of Parkinson's disease, was a time for him and his family to share. RIP

I hate to see (even) the BBC post the usual paragraph looking for personal stories and people who knew the man. It almost seems to fly in the face of the family's request to be left in peace.
