Did you know that over sixties are not allowed to buy medication for this? I called at the chemists this morning to buy some medication as I have done before.
I was asked how old I was. When I said 71 the assistant said I cannot sell it to you. The laws have been changed. You must make an appointment with your doctor. I said ok three weeks next Tuesday, what am I supposed to do about the pain in the meantime, she told me to buy some cranberry juice! How ridiculous is this, why can over sixties not buy it, anyone know?

Mamya I was joking when I said that, but getting an appointment at our practise is not easy, at least a week, so alternatives are helpful.
Caran, would they give you a prescription at a walk in centre.

What is one of those tonyav?
Give it a week on shop bought remedies Caran and if that doesn't help, then go to your GP.
I feel for you. There's only that and tonsillitis that totally floors me. X
If I were prevented from buying something which I know would relieve my suffering without having to wait for a doctor's appointment I would be screaming about ageism and my human rights. Yes, it may be a good idea to check for an underlying cause but why should you have to suffer in the meantime?
Well, in my nearest town there is a walk in medical centre ( usually used for minor illnesses and injuries ) it is manned by a doctor ( or two ) and some nurses. I think the idea was to take some pressure of the A & E dept at the hospital and of the GP's for minor med problems, plus it is open when the GP's surgery isn't.

The stupid thing is this was at the co-op pharmacy. I went to our little Boots pharmacy and they only asked me about other medication, I am on high blood pressure tablets. They refused me on those grounds. Mind they could probably tell by looking at me if I was over sixty!!
Question Author
tonyav we don't have anything like that in our small town.
Ok, Caran, get some from the supermarket tomorrow.
Why would you need to take the resources of a walk in centre if you know you have cystitis? There are plenty of over the counter relief medicines.
If it persists, fair enough, but seriously, did you get your sense of I want it now from your parents or something?
A walk in centre appointment is not necessary for this.
A walk in centre appointment is not necessary for this.

You don't need an appointment, that's why it's called a walk in center.

did you get your sense of I want it now from your parents or something?

What do you mean by that ?
Mojo

Firstly ,Caran was not aware it was available on the supermarket shelves and secondly I don't think there was anything wrong with Tony's suggestion.
Tony, a walk in centre is a luxury and is meant for urgent stuff.
To suggest it for anything else makes it pointless.
Cystitis relief is readily available on supermarket shelves and will certainly tide you over until you can get a standard GP appointment.
I think I made a valid point.
I don't think there was anything wrong with Tony's suggestion.

She obviously does !
Not on my supermarket shelf.
mama, if you read all the answers, I offered help to Caran immediately,
I didn't offer succour to the uninformed sacremongerers though. Sorry.

As I said I was not aware I could have bought something from a supermarket. I do NOT have a "I want it now attitude"
Are you going to answer my second question, MJJ.
Caran didn't know initially but now does, people go to A&E with a hangnail, now that is abuse of use.

Caran, hope you get some relief soon as it is horrid as we know.
Errrrrrrr, the A & E dept is for urgent stuff.
