i am 66 and decided to retire when i hit 65, i was self employed for the last 15 years. i have been sent a tax return, do i still have to fill one out every year or do i just ignore it. thanks for any help.

You should ask HMRC but they still need to ensure you have the right tax code and are paying the right amount of tax, so it's probably easier just to fill it in as presumably there will only be a few entries- state pension income, any private/personal pension, any savings or other income. I'd also include a note saying you are no longer self employed and give a date from which your self employment ceased. HMRC may then decide that if your affairs are simple they won'y bother sending a form in future years
if they send it you must fill it in.
I retired 10 years ago but still keep getting sent (and filling out) a tax form.

However recently they sent me a letter saying did I want to stop filling out a tax form and they would just accept the tax paid on my pension was enough.

However most years I found out I paid £200 or £300 to much tax and can claim it back, so decided to keep filling out the form.

However if you want to stop being sent the form let them know and they MAY stop sending it (it depends on your financial circumstances).
I had assumed that as a form filler extra-ordinaire
I would have to go on doing it until I croaked


I cant imagine a time when I am relieved of the duty to do the form in order to claw back sixpences from the tax man
