I have most of the symptoms of underactive thyroid I am taking 125 mg of thyroxine and my tests come back as ok on that amount surely if the medication was doing its job properly I wouldnt still have the symptoms I.e. tiredness hair loss weight gain, even though I dont eat any more than I usually do and walk approx 3 miles everyday, I would of thought by taking the meds it would help to avoid the symptoms

How long have you been taking the tablets because it takes at least six weeks for them to kick in? Thyroid problems are most difficult to sort out in my experience and with the range of results for the tests being quite "wide" I think it's a matter of trying to get the balance right and that's the difficult part. Doctors seem to feel that as long as your results are within the normal range, everything is ok yet lots of other factors can make it difficult to alleviate the symptoms.
I agree with the comments of dunnital........a common problem with patients who are hypothyroid, symptoms suggestive of an underactive thyroid but blood levels of thyroid hormones normal.

Who should you believe.....your body OR your blood results.?

The symptoms that you describe are also common in depressive illnesses with no connection to the thyroid problem.

My opinion?........stick to the blood results.

I have been taking the thyroxine for near to 5 years
FF, is your condition "just" Hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's Thyroiditis? Have you had your serum ferritin tested in the blood tests as if that is low it can give similar symptoms (tiredness, hair loss even Atrial Fibrillation) which can be confused with symptoms of the hypothyroidism. All complicated and as I said before, difficult to get just right. I don't envy you having to put up with it when you're told all is okay yet your body tells you something different.
