>>>it looks genuine enough Oh no it doesn't! Even if you get a similar looking email (apparently) from your own bank the first thing that should worry you is being addressed as 'Dear Customer'. Any legitimate email will always address you by name. Then (assuming that you've used cut & paste) the next thing to look out for is poor English, such as "multiple login...

Emmie, go onto Nationwide's own website and see if there's a link where you can report/forward phishing emails.
Question Author
alba, i will, strange that it looks genuine enough, i guess that is the point.
I was getting a spate of them from Barclays a few weeks ago, I don't bank with Barclays.
The things always start with
'Dear Customer' which is a dead give-away that it's spam.
Of course it looks genuine - wouldn't be much point it looking bogus would there ?
But it's still a SCAM/PHISH
Question Author
i have reported it to them, and see what they say.
Anything that you have an account with be it a bank or Amazon will not refer to you as 'Dear Customer'
>>>it looks genuine enough

Oh no it doesn't! Even if you get a similar looking email (apparently) from your own bank the first thing that should worry you is being addressed as 'Dear Customer'. Any legitimate email will always address you by name.

Then (assuming that you've used cut & paste) the next thing to look out for is poor English, such as "multiple login attempt error while login in to your online Nationwide account" and "we have temporarily suspend your
account".

Nearly everyone gets such emails periodically. Just delete them or, if you think that they might be genuine, contact your bank directly. (It's possible that fraudsters will send out particularly large numbers of such emails over this weekend, as they know that many bank branches are closed until Tuesday).
Question Author
i get them from my bank, which isn't these people, can't remember how they are addressed, but i generally delete them
I just checked. My bank address me by my title and surname. Amazon address me by my full name.
Question Author
i honestly don't remember, however i will forward this to NW and they can deal or not with it, i know i don't bank with them, i only asked in case others have received the same
I used to forward them to the organisations phishing reporting site but I have pretty much given up doing that as I don't believe there is much if anything they can or will actually do. I must have reported at least 50 to Paypal over the last 12 months but still the same (they appear identical) phishing emails keep arriving
Question Author
i didn't think it was genuine, as i don't bank with them,
Apart from the Dear Valued Customer and usually bad English that gives these away (plus the fact that I generally don't even have an account with these banks), you can do two other things to check:
1) Look at the headers if you have that option in your email facility
2) Hover over any link in the email and what appears to be a genuine Nationwide address is probably some random looking address in somewhere like Rumania
Question Author
this was the e mail address

Nationwide Bank
Question Author
ah it didn't appear, i copied and pasted that entire address

Unless you have already deleted the E/mail, it would be interesting to know what happens if you try the 'dodge' which I passed to our member tearinghair. Please click the link :-
