no, we have diplomats, foreign office, UN, and all sorts to try and keep these from happening again.

I hope they succeed. But sometimes bullies need to be talked to in a language that leaves no room for doubt.

No, just how many more places are we supposed to save?
we nor the US should be the world's policemen,
its more akin to the 'anschluss' than 'plucky little belgium', don't you think?
On what basis or principle, the one that we are so wonderful we never invade places?
And look what happened to saving Le Belgique, we're now rules by Bruxelles!
No
If we did, and I don't for one moment think we should, what do you envisage the outcome would be?
We should not. Ukraine is a divided nation, one section of the population siding with Russia, the rest want to throw their hats into the ring with the EU.

I would have thought their past experience of being part of a large federation would have taught them a thing or two but it clearly has not and some seem to want to return to the frying pan and others to be determioned to fall into the fire.

Good luck to them all and we should let them get on with it.

100 years ago we set out to teach the Kaiser a lesson. If we biff the Russian bear it'll know that aggression doesn't pay.

Sandy, you're sounding like a Jack Russell wanting to have a go at a Rottweiler!
// If we biff the Russian bear it'll know that aggression doesn't pay. //

then the bear will turn his gas off and leave Europe to freeze/starve.

I was trying to combine 'biffo' and 'bear' in a sentence, but at this time of the morning it's beyond me.

I was thinking of then and now. A hundred years ago there was a rush to arms in the face of aggression and now it seems all that will be done are sanctions against a few rich Russians.

'Should we dennis the russian menace?' doesn't really work either.
"100 Years Ago Our Concern For 'plucky Little Belgium' Led To War" - bit more to it than that mate, still hopes aren't high!

No leave Ukraine well alone, not our business.
This all seems rather strange to me, we are prepared to support the rebels in Syria, but shy away from doing the same in the Ukraine.
well I've always been dead against, personally and as a country, supporting Syrian rebels.
