Over the last 2 weeks I have majorly turned my diet around. on 4 metformin and 3 glipazide a day BM was 28 in a week with diet cutting all bad carbs I got it down to 9.8 after breakfast and glipazide. Today has been awful and weird. I had breakfast this morning 2 weetabix with banana boiled egg and slice of toast glipazide before it and metformin after it I went out for 3 hours did shopping had a starbucks decaf coffee came back home I was sweating all over shaking and could not even hold a pen I thought it was a hypo had a glass of orange juice a ham roll and a packet of crisps felt much better. Tonight I went to my parents house for a meal mince and potatoes vegetables raspberries and brambles with ice cream (low sugar) and a coffee, glipazide before and metformin after 2 hours later the same thing has happened shaky all over dizzy and I had 2 weetabix feeling a bit better. Confused because I am eating really differently than I did 2 weeks ago

Are you checking your BM when you are having these 'turns'?

My readings were never as high as 28 but generally in the low-mid teens. With pills went down to 8 or 9 (still high but acceptable). Then they just went down to 4 or 5.

Spoke to doc who said that as I was used to BM at 8/9 and then it dropped I might feel like it is a hypo even though it was still above the 4 level??

Just a thought?
There's obviously something about your new diet which isn't suiting you. Did you change your diet under advice from your doctor? If so - go back to the doctor. Something's not right here.

My diet before was full of carbs chocolate several times a day cakes biscuits and not being committed to taking diabetic pills as I should have done. So it has been a massive change for me diet wise. I am seeing a nurse today to get a meter
Are you still on the same medication as before? It sounds as though you're taking quite a lot and it's time for it to be reduced. Well done.
I agree with pixie concerning your medication.......but well done on your food changes.

Why would I be having them 2 hours after I eat and not before I eat ??
gordie........that is a very good question for which I haven't got an equally good answer.......sorry.
It is unusual to have hypos after a meal, but in your description, it was 2 hours after a meal, which brings it to a couple of hours before the next meal.
That is probably the answer.
I agree. "after a meal" in diabetes is within 2 hours. Perhaps it is going up straight after, but crashing back down very quickly. The nurse will sort it out when you see her later - it isn't necessarily a bad sign at all.
Some times it happens due to the changes in your diet and eating habit so this problem is occurring.
Sometimes it happens due to the change in the eating habit this would effect your diet so it is necessary that you continue with your regular diet only that would be better for you.
His new diet is better for him, but the medication may need adjusting to take it into account.
Have you seen a dietitian when you go to your Diabetes clinic/nurse? It does sound like you are getting a high sugar spike, which then drops equally quickly, leaving you feeling anxious and sweaty and shaky. It's horrible (and dangerous) to have hypos, so seek help from your diabetes clinic.
Starbucks is full of caories that hit you like a ton of bricks and gets into your system quicker that some foods.

Keep a check on how you feel next time you have a starbucks.

However it could be that because you are feeling a bit better after a snack it could be that you have had a dramatic drop is levels and the snack picks you back up.

Maybe your improved diet has done more good and you don't need as much medication.?
