Hi all.

I'm looking at upgrading my Sony Vaio desktop's OS from Vista to W7. Are there likely to be any problems going from 64bit to 32bit? Am I better doing a clean install or will I be OK just following the upgrade?

Many thanks in advance.

Have just noticed that it does go on to say:- If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista but you plan to install a 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can move your files to an external location manually or use Backup and Restore in Windows Vista and provides a link for more information.

You can't do an upgrade from 64bit Vista to 32bit W7:-

if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7

Why not just go to a 64 bit version of Windows 7?

Cant see the point of going back to 32 bit, you don't gain anything.
Interesting this thread. Why would you go to 32bit from 64bit, almost everything nowadays is designed for 64bit?

Thanks for your replies so far. I've been offered a copy of the 32bit by a work colleague. I know retail versions of Win7 come with both 32 & 64 bit, so it may have both. I was just asking in case it didn't.
