Would it be ok if I took 600mg of Ibuprofen and had a couple of Jack Daniels before I went to bed. My neck is causing me a major problem this week but I'm really fancying a drink.

I've always understood that they shouldn't be mixed but I've done it myself so yes you will probably be OK. However, I would make the JD's small ones just to be on the safe side. If the neck's no better in a day or two perhaps a visit to the doc.s might be wise (unless it's an ongoing problem, of course.)
put some food in your stomach as well as the JD and ibuprofen and it should be fine. Hot toddy and ibuprofen used to be my cold cure of choice till I became unable to take ibuprofen.
take an antacid as well - ( zantac if you have it - available off prescription )

if you are gonna take ibuprofen regularly it is a wise precaution.

I take ibuprofen ( and zantac of course ) to get me down the pub so from experience I can say it is OK

Thanks all, I was just going to make myself a bit of toast so I could take the ibuprofen, now I'll have a little tipple to go with it. I'm hoping it'll relax me a bit so I can get a good night's sleep, haven't had one since saturday night when I did something to my neck somehow, god knows what.

PP, I take ranitidine quite regularly and have had my dose for today, hopefully it'll still be active.

Thanks Calibax, that link sounds good :)

Done nothing but rest since Sunday methly, getting on my nerves now as I'm not ill but feeling pretty useless.

On the plus side Mr Racoon is doing all the housework and walking the dog :)

400mg of Ibu wasn't touching the pain so I upped it by a tablet, seems to help a bit more. Just wish I could get comfortable in bed, no matter where I put the pillows it's not right.
Yeah - no
try the JC
tell mr R R it is a n=1 trial- you are the only one in the trial
Further to methyl's suggestion of rest what about a support collar? I believe the foam ones are available over the counter in pharmacies and would not only support but also keep your neck warm thus helping the healing and perhaps adding to the pain relief.

I was hoping to do without one of those tbh but I think I might call into the chemist tomorrow to see if they have one.

Thanks Treetops :)
Rocky save your money. In order to provide pain relief they have to immobilise and therefore , they have to be so tight as to be uncomfortable. This isn't good for muscle tone either. Warmth can help its true but you will get as much warmth from a scarf or roil neck sweater and not look like Mrs Tishell out of Doc Martin.
I take Ibuprofen 600mg on a regular basis, I also have a B&C every night before bed. Does it cure my pain, most times but not always.
