Although we've travelled extensively both in the uk and abroad, I'd never been to either of these places until yesterday.
Well, disappointed doesn't come close to how I feel about both :(
Bracknell was dreadful, even accepting its undergoing rejuvenation and renevation (by the looks of it, not before time) but Ascot was a total shock. I was expecting an interesting, maybe slightly upmarket town, with some interesting independent shops to have a mooch around. Instead, there was a slightly scruffy, fairly small high street....and that was it.
So we headed into Windsor, again, and at least had a nice lunch in the duchess of Cambridge pub, in front of a log fire.
Have I missed something???

as the young lady said in an episode of 'only fools....' - - "boring berkshire"
Bracknell has always been a dump.

I can't recall visiting Ascot but horse-racing towns often seem to be rather duller than some people might expect, simply because the 'smart set' only visit for a few days per year. Newmarket, for example, doesn't have a great deal going for it.
