Pet Shops

Have tried to look this up on line and seem to go around in circles!
There's a garden centre close to me which sells pets - they are keeping a particular species in a completely inhumane and incorrect way and giving totally wrong information to prospective owners which in turn is sentencing these animals to a very sorry and cruel existence - I 've spoken with staff and the manager (all very nice and civilised) who assured me that if I sent care sheets they would improve things. Went in today (six weeks later) and everything is the same. (There's a surprise!)
Where do I go from here - who is responsible for monitoring the welfare of pets sold to the public like this?.

I had thought of the RSPCA but don't have too much faith in them - thanks for the suggestion though.

Try your local authority website. I know that boarding kennels need some sort of permit to allow them to look after animals. Perhaps they have a similar way of looking after pet stores.

what about the local vets - our independent pet shop has notices up that their animals are regularly checked by the vets.

Ladybirder it makes me so cross that just because somebody can't be bothered to make a bit of an effort, these animals are subjected to a life of cruelty. Why people who haven't a genuine interest in animals choose to work with them is beyond me.

tortoise ummm - kept in a glass vivarium which is stressful for them, they had the wrong bedding, wrong food, nowhere to hide and noway of getting away from the heat lamp.
