Might seem a daft question BUT are cyclists exempt from the speed limit

Apart from places like shred pavements where a local bye-law might be passed to restrict them then no. However there is a charge of 'riding furiously' http://road.cc/content/news/98005-man-court-wanton-and-furious%E2%80%99-cycling-charge

Having experience of the cyclists around here it seems they are exempt from every law going.
But IMO I can not fathom any reason why they would be able to ignore a speed limit. If it is necessary for a motorised vehicle surely for the same reasons it is there it would apply to all.
As far as I am aware cyclists are bound by the same speed limits as motorists.

I can't see anything in the highway code (unless I need to go to specsavers):
https://www.gov.uk/rules-for-cyclists-59-to-82/overview-59-to-71
As self-appointed saviours of the planet, cyclists are immune from inconveniences (or traffic laws as the rest of us call them) in almost all cases.
Their high speed runs through pedestrian areas only serve to reinforce the import of their mission.
No, they can still be booked.
There is no statutary speed limit for cyclists on public highways. Councils can introduce local bylaws for speed limits in council-controlled areas such as public parks.
I don't know about public roads but a colleague got caught speeding on his bike by the MOD Plod, he wore it as a badge of honour until he was informed that he wasn't allowed his bike on site for a month.......it was a very large site and walking everywhere was a pain in the bum.....Oh how we all laughed at him :-)
They might have a good case in court that they didn't know what speed they were doing.
