Several really bright yellow butterflies have fluttered by my window this morning. What might they be called?

Yep, brimstones. I've had one in my garden too.
Some interesting info for you. Click on a photograph to enlarge and again to reduce back. :-

Another for brimstones, although ive seen a few Comms'a this week too
I saw my first brimstone in my garden today.

Its apparently thought by some that the word 'butterfly' originally referred to to the brimstone due to its buttery yellow color, sounds feasible to me
@Chipchopper......You are correct to say that the word 'butterfly' has it's origination with the colour of Brimstones.

Interesting that the OP (greengage ^^) has said "fluttered by my window" because Butterflies were once called Flutterbies.
