about 3 hours ago and the dentist said not to have any hot drinks, but I'm dying for a coffee.

Well, in your situation,"dying for a cup of coffee".......I would have a cup of coffee.

I assume that you are not bleeding at the moment and that the local anaesthetic has worn off...........how about a cup of coffee with a little more milk than usual (cold milk)
