Could anyone recommend a reliable plumber in the Bournemouth/Poole/Christchurch area for a small job? We need a dishwasher fitting in my Mum's house and it will be next to an existing washing machine so the plumbing is already there - may just need a Y-piece connection. (Sorry if that's not the technical term!) Don't want to be ripped off as has happened in the past, even from those listed on Checkatrade. Not sure how much to expect to pay for this job.

I have always used "Checkatrade.com. It really is brilliant, you can look up tradespeople living near you and view all their recommendations and ratings from happy customers, and choose one that you think will be reasonable. The recommendations, comments and ratings that other customers have given them will help you to choose. I have used many different tradespeople from Checkatrade and always found them to be excellent, reliable and reasonably priced.
sorry, should have read more thoroughly Iosgigs, I see you have had bad experience with Checkatrade. Maybe spend more time researching a plumber on checkatrade, and you could always ask a few of them for quotes over the phone and compare prices.
try local papers, sure those would be on line as well.
I agree with Emmie. a local handyman is really all you need. With it being sited next to a washing machine, the connections will be very simple.
OK, I'm not a plumber but just to say I've had bad experiences with those y-piece connections. I had to replace 3 of them with our washing machine/dishwasher situation, in one case a leak going unnoticed for some months, causing damage to carpeting some way from the appliances' location. In the end I made up a T-piece from copper piping with isolation valves on both outlets. Seems a much more robust set-up. Good luck with your search.

Thanks very much for all your answers. Having arrived this afternoon to find there is also a damp problem on one wall (possibly some repointing needed) we have found a local handyman who is hopefully going to help with the various jobs that need doing. Dishwasher ordered for delivery on Friday. :)
